Tragedy in Swedish High School: 17-Year-Old Girl Murdered in Sword Attack
An 18-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 17-year-old student and wounding two others in Fagersta. Investigators are examining whether he was influenced by online communities promoting violence, after a TikTok account attributed to him posted a photo of the weapon minutes before the attack.
Swedish police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the online activity of an 18-year-old who carried out a sword attack on Friday at a high school in the center of the country. One 17-year-old student was murdered, and two other teenagers were seriously wounded. Investigators are now examining whether the suspect acted with the encouragement of online communities that promote violence and massacres in educational institutions.
The incident occurred at the Brinellskolan school in the city of Fagersta. The victim's parents confirmed to the local newspaper Fagersta-Posten that their daughter was killed in the attack. Two teenagers who were seriously wounded were evacuated for medical treatment, and the attacker was neutralized and arrested at the scene by responding police forces.
According to a report by the Reuters news agency, the focus of the investigation is a TikTok account opened about a month ago, which is suspected to belong to the attacker. Approximately 20 minutes before the incident, a picture of the sword was posted on the account, which, according to the newspaper Dagens Nyheter, was apparently taken inside a school restroom.
Before it was removed from the network, the account contained videos and posts referencing massacres, specifically those involving the Norwegian terrorist and right-wing extremist Anders Breivik. Additionally, references were found in the account to the 2015 sword attack at a school in Trollhättan, where a teaching assistant and two students were murdered.
A source in the local police noted that forensic and cyber investigators are mapping the forums and online groups the suspect was a member of, with the goal of determining if other parties encouraged him to carry out the act. The Swedish prosecution has ordered the extension of the suspect's detention on suspicion of murder and several counts of attempted murder. The prosecutor stated that the investigation is at an advanced stage, involving the collection of testimonies and forensic and digital evidence.
