Stage fright? Qualcomm's robot collapsed on stage at the prestigious conference
Qualcomm's demonstration at the Computex 2026 exhibition ended unexpectedly after a humanoid robot collapsed in front of the audience. The video went viral, illustrating that despite progress in the field, the technology is still not free of malfunctions.
The Computex exhibition, considered one of the largest technology exhibitions in the world, attracted giants this year as well, such as Nvidia, Qualcomm, Asus, and others, who presented the latest innovations in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. However, it was one of the live demonstrations that went viral for a controversial reason.
During the event, held in Taipei, Qualcomm, one of the world's largest chip companies, presented a humanoid robot operating on the Dragonwing IQ10 platform, in collaboration with the company Neura Robotics. At the beginning of the demonstration, the robot was seen walking toward the center of the stage and handing the presenter the product it was holding in its hands — exactly as planned. However, a few seconds later, it suddenly collapsed to the floor.
Staff members rushed to the stage, covered the robot with a black cloth, and quickly removed it while the audience watched what was happening. The video went viral on social media within hours, with comments including jokes such as "Even robots can have a heart attack," "They covered it up so quickly as if it were a crime scene," "This wouldn't have happened to WALL-E," and "He must have had a hard day at work." Others humorously wondered if the black cloth was intended to "preserve the modesty of the body."
Qualcomm's Dragonwing IQ10 platform is designed for humanoid robots and autonomous systems and is capable, according to the company, of performing up to 700 TOPS (trillions of operations per second) of AI processing locally, without dependence on the cloud.

On the X network, reports were circulated that Qualcomm explained that the collapse was part of a "safe collapse mechanism" designed to protect the environment in the event of a malfunction. However, as of the time of publication, the company has not released an official statement confirming these claims.
The incident comes at a time when technology manufacturers around the world are trying to prove that robots are approaching commercial use. Computex also dedicated a special area this year for the first time to AI-based robotics, as part of the race to showcase the next generation of smart machines. However, the event in Taipei served as a reminder that despite the impressive progress in the field, the technology is still far from perfect.
