Storm in the Likud primaries: Branch assigned to the wrong district will remain there
Likud comptroller Shai Galili, who is running in the Coastal Plain (Mishor HaHof) district, claimed that the Tamra branch was assigned to the district even though its location is in the Haifa and Galilee area. The chairman of the election committee replied that due to the "significant delay," the change cannot be made now, but clarified: "In the future, the necessary change will be made."
Storm in the Likud primaries: Party comptroller Shai Galili claims that the Tamra branch was attached to the Coastal Plain (Mishor HaHof) district even though it does not belong to it geographically. The chairman of the election committee replied that the required change will be made in the future, but not in the upcoming elections due to the "significant delay." Galili, who is running in the district, claims that he reached out immediately upon learning of the change.
Six candidates are running in the Coastal Plain district, including two of the most prominent in the race — former head of the Israel Bar Association Efi Nave and Likud comptroller Shai Galili. According to Galili, the addition of the Tamra branch to the district could affect the results of the contest, where every vote could be significant.
In a conversation with "HaYom," Galili said that to his understanding, the assignment of the branch to the Coastal Plain district could assist his rival Nave. On the other hand, sources familiar with the details claimed that this is part of the changes and mergers of branches that the Likud carried out ahead of the primaries.
In a letter he sent to the acting CEO of the Likud, David Sharan, and to the chairman of the party's election committee, retired judge Menachem Galili, the Likud comptroller requested an explanation for the assignment of the branch to the Coastal Plain district:
"Ahead of the upcoming primaries, I have now observed that the branch or city of Tamra, which are located geographically in the Haifa and Galilee area, were assigned to the 'Coastal Plain' district in the said primaries. The Tamra branch was never part of the Coastal Plain in the past, and now, surprisingly, it has been assigned to this district, even though its geographical location is very far from the borders of this district. I request an explanation on the matter."
In the response he received from the chairman of the election committee, it was stated that at this stage, it is no longer possible to make the change, but that the issue will be corrected in the future:
"In view of the significant delay, it is not possible to change. However, I have noted that in the future, the necessary change will be made."
Galili, for his part, rejects the claim of delay and argues that he contacted the relevant parties immediately after he learned about the change in the branch's affiliation.
Acting Likud CEO David Sharan and Efi Nave did not provide a response to the inquiry from "HaYom."
