All five publicly traded supermarket chain stocks on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange closed October in negative territory. Yochananof led with a minimal drop of 1.15%, while Shufersal shed 4.34%. However, looking at the yields since the beginning of 2026, the picture shifts significantly: Tiv Taam gained 8.36%, whereas Victory plunged by nearly 30% despite ranking second for the month.

Yochananof recorded the mildest decline in October at 1.15% and the smallest drop year-to-date among the four losing stocks. Alongside its supermarket network, Yochananof operates the Zol Stock chain, which sells household goods.

Victory followed with a 2.53% drop, outperforming Rami Levy by over a percentage point in October. Yet, the year-to-date picture reverses: Victory plummeted by 29.97%, marking the sharpest decline among the five.

Tiv Taam registered a 2.85% decline and remains the only stock in the index with a positive yield since the beginning of 2026. In addition to grocery stores, the group engages in food import and marketing, with retail operations accounting for about 72% of its revenue in the first half of the year.

Rami Levy posted a 3.60% drop. Alongside discount branches, the group operates neighborhood supermarkets, incorporating Super Cofix urban branches into its retail segment since early 2026.

Shufersal recorded the steepest monthly decline at 4.34%, bringing its year-to-date loss to 9.89%. Alongside supermarkets, the group operates the Be pharmacy chain and engages in income-producing real estate.

Carrefour Israel is not traded separately, but as part of Electra Consumer Products, which operates the chain alongside electrical appliance and sports retail. Consequently, the stock yield reflects the entire group's performance rather than Carrefour alone.

Price yields for October were calculated based on closing prices between September 30 and October 30, 2026, excluding dividends. Year-to-date yields are current as of November 3, 2026.

Food Retail Market Overview

Israel's food retail market generates tens of billions of shekels annually, serving as one of the economy's primary consumer sectors.

According to Storenext data, FMCG sales—including food, beverages, cleaning products, and toiletries—reached approximately 63.1 billion shekels in 2025, a 3.9% increase compared to 2024. This growth was driven primarily by price hikes, while real sales volume actually contracted by about 0.3%.

The sector is characterized by intense competition among major chains like Shufersal, Rami Levy, Yochananof, and Victory, alongside private and regional players. Shufersal remains the dominant industry player with revenues of approximately 15.6 billion shekels in 2024, followed by Rami Levy with about 7.4 billion shekels.
