Sydney Sweeney and Yael from 'Married at First Sight' as Military Advocate General: The web celebrates Channel 14's blunder

After the embarrassing incident on Channel 14 was exposed on social media — where an "exclusive and special report" on former Military Advocate General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi turned out to be footage of an anonymous woman on the street — sarcastic reactions on the web did not take long to arrive.

On Sunday, reporter Meir Shamtzov presented what he defined as an "exclusive and special report" on former Military Advocate General Tomer-Yerushalmi. However, minutes after the segment aired, sharp-eyed social media users pointed out that the woman caught on camera was not Tomer-Yerushalmi at all.

Many users on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok joked about the on-air blunder, posting pictures of well-known figures and calling them by other names. For example, Amir Sperling posted a picture of Hollywood actress Sydney Sweeney on X with the caption: "Today on Channel 14: Sara Netanyahu answers the tough questions — what face cream does she use and what do she and the Ethiopian workers like to eat for breakfast."

Omer Babai uploaded an AI-generated image of Tomer-Yerushalmi alongside the figure accidentally filmed on Channel 14, sitting on a bus, with the caption: "I don't believe it."

Ran Gilboa also posted a joke on X alongside a picture of Channel 12 reporter Brahanu Teganya: "Channel 14: We ran into Barack Obama on an Israeli street and threw all the tough questions at him."

Attaching a picture of Pamela Anderson on the red carpet, user Dan Goren posted: "Tomorrow on Channel 14: What is Gali Baharav-Miara doing in Hollywood, and what is happening with the Military Advocate General's file." User Aviv Mizrahi wrote: "Well, Channel 14 deleted the tweet with the video and ran to the HaTzuk beach."

Another user posted a picture of Yael, the psychologist from the reality show "Married at First Sight," and wrote: "Today on Channel 14: An exclusive interview with the real Military Advocate General — 'how hard it is to find a relationship when people chase you in the garden while you are out walking the dog.'"

Channel 14: "Below are the facts"

Following the embarrassment, the channel's management published an unusual clarification attempting to explain the chain of coincidences that led to the reporter's mistake. Under the headline "Regarding tonight's publication concerning the Military Advocate General — below are the facts," the channel listed four reasons for the confusion:

1. The lady who was filmed was walking behind the building where Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi lives.

2. A man who looks like Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi's husband accompanied her.

3. The lady who was filmed looks very much like Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi.

4. The lady who was filmed answered to the name 'Yifat' and did not deny a connection to the questions asked about the affair in which Tomer-Yerushalmi is involved.

Despite the attempt at justification, the channel understood that it was impossible to ignore the facts on the ground. "Despite all this," the channel's message concluded, "in light of the doubts that have arisen, the report has been removed from the platforms where it was published, and we will conduct a re-examination."
