Surprise: MK to run on the national list in the Likud primaries

Knesset member Shalom Danino will run on the national list in the upcoming Likud primaries, rather than in the southern district as he had initially planned — this was learned by Walla. The decision was made after a series of deliberations and consultations. The move is expected to grant Danino the support of Netivot Mayor Yehiel Zohar, who is considered one of the most prominent influential figures in the party.

Previously, it was reported that Danino was among the first Knesset members expected to run in the southern district. Alongside him, Knesset member Keti Shitrit is also expected to run in the Jerusalem district, after the party assessed that this would be her path for the race.

Now, Danino is moving up a level and declaring his candidacy on the national list.

After the proposal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister Haim Katz, who also serves as chairman of the Likud central committee, was approved this week at the Likud convention by a narrow margin of only five votes, it appears that several Knesset members are preparing to take advantage of the change, which allows incumbent Knesset members to run in districts and designated slots in the primaries.
