On the backs of the fighters: This is what the "new Zionist left" looks like under the auspices of Yair Golan
Democrats party chairman Yair Golan continues to reveal his true political colors. In a weekend interview, he was questioned about the Eli Yeshiva and why he targeted them, despite the academy having lost 19 students in the war. Golan produced a list of quotes from the rabbis, acting as a social inspector rather than showing respect for the institution that produces top IDF commanders.
Chairman of the Democrats party Yair Golan continues to reveal to us what kind of politician we are dealing with — one just needs to listen. Golan was interviewed over the weekend and asked about the Eli Yeshiva. He was asked a simple question: what do you have against them? Why did you target them specifically?
"Nineteen fallen from the pre-military academy (mechina) in the war," the interviewer Omri Assenheim insists.
And then an unbelievable thing happens. Yair Golan pulls out a list. He walks around with a piece of paper containing quotes from the rabbis of the Eli mechina.
For a moment I thought Yair Golan would pull out a page with the names of the fallen. But not at all. Yair Golan came to conduct an investigation; he actually sat and looked for quotes. Instead of bowing his head before a life's work that brings the best commanders to the IDF, he decided to play the role of a social inspector.
What cynicism: to take a few sentences from rabbis and turn them into an excuse to close a breeding ground for heroes who sacrifice their lives. Tell me, what do you have to do with Zionism? What does the "Democrats" party have to do with this self-sacrifice and love for the Land of Israel?
How can one preach about values when you attack an institution that lost its best sons in battles for the country? Stop selling us that this is the Zionist left of the past; this is a crazy extremism that directs its campaign against soldiers, against the settlers of Judea and Samaria, and against Channel 14.
It is amazing that this group is still called the Democrats. They hide behind sanitized words about democracy and human rights while being busy cutting the roots of the national home. And this is the partner of Eisenkot, Lieberman, Bennett, Lapid. A man who sets himself goals of trampling entire populations, harming the IDF, and silencing voices.
