Nadav Eyal attacked a Channel 14 presenter who replied: "I am a bereaved father myself"
Journalist Nadav Eyal criticized Channel 14 presenters Tamir Shnaid and Noy Bar Itzhak following a segment featuring Dudu Jerfi, who lost his son and two sisters at the Nova festival. Eyal accused the presenters of manipulation, calling them "nobodies," to which Shnaid, who also lost a daughter, responded with a sharp rebuke regarding the politicization of grief.
Left-wing journalist Nadav Eyal attacked Channel 14 presenters Tamir Shnaid and Noy Bar Itzhak today, Thursday, following a segment on their show dealing with criticism from bereaved families against Gadi Eisenkot. The segment featured an interview with Dudu Jerfi, who lost his son and two sisters at the Nova festival. Eyal criticized the presentation of the segment and called the presenters "two young nobodies."
In a post, Eyal wrote:
"I have no idea who these two people are. Below it is written: 'The bereaved families against Eisenkot.' Not 'bereaved families' but 'the bereaved families.' All of them. And this is a bereaved father, and the goal is completely clear. To erase him as a bereaved family. To neutralize. Wicked, manipulative."
Eyal added, addressing the two presenters: "And to the two young nobodies, one of whom calls Eisenkot 'the toaster on duty,' we will remember you. Well."
Shnaid, who lost his daughter a year ago, replied to Eyal:
"The nobody you are talking about happens to be a bereaved father himself. But the real nobodies are you and your kind, who completely exclude bereaved families just because they are from the wrong political side. I chose to let their voices be heard. You chose to erase them and then also preach about bereavement."
Shortly after, Eyal removed the post. Later, he published an explanation:
"I deleted a previous tweet about this 'discussion' on Channel 14 because I used a certain expression towards these presenters, and it is a pity to lower the level of the discussion. Look at the caption. The things speak for themselves, what they are trying to do there. Let every person judge for themselves and according to their values."
Shnaid told C14: "I chose to let the voices of bereaved families be heard, whom people like Nadav Eyal preferred not to see just because they are not from the right political side. While they excluded, erased, and turned them into 'transparent bereavement,' I gave them a platform and I am proud of it."
Itzik Benutzal, a bereaved father, also addressed the confrontation: "When they wrote about me 'Bibist bereavement' or 'death eater,' you were silent. Bereaved families interest you like a garlic peel when they are not from your camp."
