While many countries settle for an official denial in such cases, Azerbaijan has decided to turn to legal proceedings. To manage the process, the government in Baku hired the American lawyer Wayne Dennison, who became famous, among other things, for representing the actor Johnny Depp. Dennison claims that the unsubstantiated reports directly endanger the lives of citizens and public figures in the country.
On the other hand, CNN refused to respond directly to the details of the lawsuit, but stated that they stand firmly behind their reports. The move comes against the backdrop of sharp criticism by President Donald Trump against the network, which he has often called "fake news."
