Shake-up in Israeli high-tech: Gaming giant lays off employees
The company, which develops leading flagship games using a unique model, has begun laying off employees at its development center in Ramat Gan, which accounts for about a quarter of the workforce of the American corporation that controls it.
The wave of layoffs hitting the high-tech industry in Israel is not bypassing the gaming giant SciPlay. As reported today (Monday) in "Calcalist", the company SciPlay Games Israel has laid off about 20 employees out of its approximately 300 staff members at the company's offices in the Bursa complex in Ramat Gan.
The Israeli branch, which grew partly based on the acquisition of the company Dragonplay in 2014, currently accounts for a quarter to a third of the global workforce of SciPlay, which is fully owned by the American corporation Light & Wonder.
The center in Ramat Gan, under the management of Noga Halperin (who simultaneously serves as the global Chief Revenue Officer), is considered the company's technological and strategic growth engine. The local teams are responsible from end to end for the development and operation of popular flagship games, including Quick Hit Slots, 88 Fortunes, and Hot Shot Casino.
The company's games operate on a Free-to-Play model and offer a virtual casino experience without real-money gambling, while relying heavily on advanced capabilities in the fields of Data Science, product management, analytics, and digital marketing. The current reduction is apparently part of efficiency measures and reorganization of operational hubs, but the Israeli center is expected to continue to be a key site in the company's international operations.
