Russian spy satellites have provided Iran with advanced intelligence regarding US assets in the Middle East, according to a CNN report. The cooperation was highlighted during an attack on a US Air Force base in Saudi Arabia, where 14 Russian satellites orbited overhead.
Intelligence Sharing and Satellite Support
According to CNN, Russian reconnaissance satellites fed Tehran intelligence concerning the locations of US assets in the Middle East and internal base activities. This data assisted Tehran in launching precise strikes against American targets during the campaign. The Kremlin has consistently denied providing such military assistance to Iran.
Attack on Prince Sultan Air Base
The coordination between Russian satellite activity and Iranian missiles was particularly prominent during the strike on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia in late March. The attack injured 12 US service members, caused heavy damage, and destroyed an American AWACS surveillance aircraft valued at hundreds of millions of dollars.
CNN reported that 14 Russian satellites flew over the base shortly before the attack, including advanced reconnaissance craft capable of imagery collection, communications intercept, and air defense positioning. US officials fear this was not an isolated incident and that Moscow repeatedly supplied similar intelligence to Iran, including data aiding an attack on a CIA facility in Riyadh.
