Nearly three years after the October 7 massacre, IDF forces continue intense operational activities deep within the Gaza Strip amid heightened security tensions during the holiday season. The operational reality on the ground has changed significantly, with near-total operational control creating complex challenges, while residents of the Gaza envelope remain on high alert.
Defense Minister Israel Katz addressed the ongoing situation, emphasizing that the military remains prepared to complete the mission if Hamas refuses to disarm voluntarily. "Everyone understands that Hamas will not disarm and destroy all the tunnels—and the IDF is prepared, upon receiving the directive, to finish the job," Katz stated. Meanwhile, Southern Command forces maintain a high offensive tempo, conducting targeted strikes and destroying weapons depots to pressure Hamas.
Reservist soldiers from Brigade 179 recently completed operational deployment in the Gaza Strip, operating near Ridge 70 and facing security incidents including explosive devices targeting armored vehicles. Security officials stress that the military avoids slipping into routine complacency by constantly initiating offensive operations and thwarting emerging threats.
Amid ongoing international scrutiny and debates over operational rules of engagement, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir stressed the military's commitment to ethical standards. "The IDF is the most moral army in the world. Facing deliberate attacks on our civilians and rocket fire targeting urban centers, we adhere to the IDF's values and international law," Zamir stated during a recent tribute event.
