Qatari report: Sinwar's associate expected to be elected Hamas leader in Gaza

The terrorist organization Hamas is preparing to hold internal elections this week for the new leader of the bureau in the Gaza Strip. According to details provided today, Sunday, by Arab affairs correspondent Shahar Kleiman, citing a report from the Qatari newspaper "Al-Araby Al-Jadeed," the leading candidate for the position is Ali al-Amoudi.

Al-Amoudi is considered one of the associates of the eliminated Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and previously served as the head of his office. However, sources close to the organization noted to the Qatari newspaper that despite his closeness to Sinwar, al-Amoudi is considered a more pragmatic person regarding the post-war phase.

According to the sources, al-Amoudi was one of the central figures in Hamas who pushed for the formulation of a roadmap for Gaza. In addition, he supports the organization's participation in the elections for the Palestinian Legislative Council scheduled for November.

Local elections in Gaza are taking place shortly after a broader election process within Hamas for the position of head of the general political bureau. Khalil al-Hayya, who until now served as head of the bureau in the Gaza Strip, was elected to this position.

Parallel to the internal processes in the organization, political contacts with mediators continue. Hamas spokesman in Gaza, Hazem Qassem, addressed the talks the organization is holding today and said that meetings with officials in Egypt are taking place as part of Hamas's diplomatic efforts. According to him, the purpose of the meetings is to update the mediators on the violations that they claim Israel is committing, and to ensure that it adheres to the terms of the roadmap agreed upon with the Peace Council.
