"To express his joy of life": A sports field inaugurated in memory of the child murdered in his home
The school year at the "Ahavat Yisrael" school began with a ceremony dedicating a soccer field to the 7-year-old boy who was murdered in his home's yard. His brother Yosef kicked the first ball into the goal. His father Amos thanked the city management and noted that the place will express his son's joy of life.
A new sports field was dedicated today, Tuesday, to the memory of Hillel Mordechai Dadon, who was murdered about two weeks ago in the yard of his home in Beit Shemesh. The inauguration ceremony took place at the "Ahavat Yisrael" school, where he was supposed to enter the second grade, in the presence of his parents, family members, and senior municipal officials to mark the opening of the school year.
The inauguration of the field was held this morning at the educational institution where Yosef Dadon, Hillel's brother, also studies. During the ceremony, Yosef kicked the first ball into the goal. The decision to name the complex after the child was made by the Mayor of Beit Shemesh, Shmuel Greenberg, and the school principal, Desi Nachmani, with the aim of commemorating Dadon's fondness for soccer.
Dadon was murdered in the middle of August while he was in an inflatable pool in his home's yard together with his cousin, who was moderately injured in the incident. The attack occurred on his birthday, while his mother had gone out for shopping ahead of the celebration and his soldier brother arrived to surprise him. Shortly thereafter, the police arrested a neighbor who lived nearby, who was caught while allegedly cleaning the blood off the knife used for the stabbing. A police investigation revealed that the suspect is known for drug-related offenses, but does not have a criminal record in the field of violence or a psychiatric background.
During the inauguration event, Amos Dadon, Hillel's father, gave a speech and thanked the municipal staff and welfare services for their support since the incident. According to him, his family is inaugurating the field with the intention that it will express his son's joy of life, and he expressed hope to meet in the future at happy occasions.
Mayor Greenberg added in his speech that the public is strengthened by the parents' faith, and emphasized that the municipality will continue to act so that Dadon's memory will accompany the community and the school. The ceremony was also attended by other senior municipal officials, including Deputy Mayor Moshe Shitrit and senior officials of the local education administration.
