Israeli Court Orders Psychiatric Evaluation for Man Accused of Harassing Singer
A 50-year-old man was re-arrested in Tel Aviv for violating a restraining order and harassing a well-known Israeli singer. The court ordered a psychiatric evaluation after revealing a previous long-term hospitalization order.

Arrest and Psychiatric Evaluation Ordered
A 50-year-old man was re-arrested in Tel Aviv after violating restraining orders by repeatedly harassing a well-known Israeli singer. The suspect, identified as Simantov Levy, allegedly tracked the artist to her performances and even attempted to approach her at a synagogue in Ashdod.
Hours after being released under restrictive conditions, the suspect appeared in the front row of the singer's concert and began filming her. The artist spotted him in the crowd, leading to his immediate re-arrest for breaching police orders.
Court Proceedings and Psychiatric History
During the hearing at the Tel Aviv Magistrates' Court, police representative Nir Malka emphasized the ongoing danger posed by the suspect. Meanwhile, defense attorney Ilana Toledano argued that the suspect was merely an enthusiastic fan photographing a public figure, comparing his actions to those of teenagers.
However, the court uncovered significant details regarding the suspect's mental health history. Judge Noga Bilikstein Shachori noted that criminal proceedings against Levy had previously been halted due to his psychological state, and a 20-year psychiatric hospitalization order had been issued.
"Even if the offense could normally tolerate conditional release, I find it difficult to order it in this case given the ambiguity regarding his mental state and competence," stated Judge Noga Bilikstein Shachori.
Ongoing Investigation
The judge ordered the district psychiatrist to conduct an initial evaluation to determine the suspect's competence to stand trial and his responsibility for the alleged acts. Levy's detention was extended until Wednesday noon, with the police investigation continuing at the Holon station.
