OpenClaw 2.0 Released: A Massive Update for the AI Agent
OpenClaw has launched its most significant update to date. Version 2.0 introduces a streamlined installation process, a rebuilt browser application, and advanced features that allow the agent to learn and evolve in the background.
It is hard to believe, given the pace of development in this field, but less than a year ago OpenClaw (then known as Clawdbot) burst into our lives. In less than a month, Peter Steinberger's project became so viral that it drew threats from Anthropic, caused a Mac Mini shortage, and secured Steinberger a quick exit to OpenAI, launching the agent field into the mainstream. Now, OpenClaw is receiving its most significant update since launch. So, what is new?
Fast Installation and a New Application
The most significant part of the update involves the installation process. It now identifies and utilizes services you already possess, such as subscriptions to Claude or ChatGPT, API keys, and locally installed models. This allows new users to get to work immediately. The browser application has also been rebuilt; it is now more advanced and opens directly to your conversation.
The application now allows you to search past conversations by keywords, track task progress, and handle sensitive information via masked prompts. It also features improved video and audio processing within your chat. Additionally, OpenClaw now offers deeper Slack integration, supporting messages, actions, and approvals.
Multitasking and Agent 'Dreams'
At OpenClaw, they explain that your agent can now dynamically switch between different tasks and applications. For instance, you can ask it to monitor your children's inbox for school emails, and then immediately switch its focus to searching for a specific purchase history. You can also collaborate with other users on shared tasks within the same session.

Your Claw can now 'dream,' meaning it processes information in the background and saves critical data to long-term memory. Simultaneously, the Skill Workshop scans your history, identifies recurring patterns, and turns them into new skills. OpenClaw is evolving from a sophisticated agent into an entity that continuously learns and progresses.
OpenClaw claims this is the most massive update in its history, involving 933 contributors and over 16,000 Pull Requests. Despite a seven-week hiatus in updates, the scale of the changes is immense. Users can also import history and memories from other platforms, including Claude Code and Codex.
