Netanyahu considers offering reserved spots in Likud to Winter – details of the deal

The Likud party continues to explore ways to unite the right-wing bloc. As reported this evening (Tuesday), Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering a proposal to offer the chairman of the "Amha Yisrael" party, Brigadier General (res.) Ofer Winter, several reserved spots on the joint electoral list.

According to the emerging outline, Netanyahu is examining the possibility of offering Winter at least three reserved spots on the joint list, with the goal of ensuring that he and his party, "Amha Yisrael," join Likud.

These three spots are intended for Winter himself, public diplomacy activist Yoseph Haddad, and journalist Netaeli Shem Tov. From Netanyahu's perspective, this structure is considered a political "win-win." The Prime Minister had previously considered reserving a spot for Shem Tov independently, so her inclusion as part of the agreement with Winter allows him to achieve two goals in one move.

Beyond the public profile of these individuals, Shem Tov also addresses Netanyahu's need to strengthen female representation on the list, as she is expected to fill one of the required female slots. The offer of three reserved spots is intended to dissuade Winter from running independently, which, according to concerns within Likud, could lead to the loss of precious votes in the right-wing bloc.
