New Storm in the "Democrats": Yair Golan Considers Reserving a Spot for Yonatan Shamriz
After announcing his decision to enter politics, Yonatan Shamriz stated that his goal is to become the Minister of Revival. Representatives for Shamriz stated that he "will not comment on personal conversations with political figures or the offers he receives."
Yonatan Shamriz, founder of the "Kumu!" movement and brother of the late Alon (Lulu) Shamriz, who was kidnapped to Gaza and mistakenly shot to death, is being considered for a reserved spot in the "Democrats" party. This was learned by "Hayom". Shamriz is simultaneously reviewing several offers from other parties and has already announced his entry into politics.

Shamriz's name as a potential candidate for a reserved spot comes up following the controversy reported in "Hayom" regarding a reserved spot being considered for Einav Zangauker. Shamriz, who is considered a more moderate figure and a consensus choice for the center-left camp, is also identified with the struggle of the hostages' families. As is known, Yair Golan reserves the right to allocate a spot at number 2 or at the end of the first ten on the party list.
Last January, after announcing his decision to enter politics, Shamriz declared that his goal was to be the Minister of Revival. During Democracy Day at Reichman University, he said:
"I decided that I am entering politics, I want to be the Minister of Revival. From our generation will come the salvation. We need to tell our friends in power: you were there, you failed, you are finished. Our generation has been absent for too long from decision-making positions. It is our turn to decide what the country will look like in the future."
"I assume that today politicians came here who spoke about you and not to you. It is difficult for me to join existing political forces. I think we need to continue to stick to the fact that we need to decide what the new Israeli story is, and a young political force is necessary today. Getting to the ballot box is too late, we need to set up working groups now, because we are building the next State of Israel."
On behalf of Shamriz, it was stated that he "will not comment on personal conversations with figures in the system and the political offers he receives." No response was received from the Democrats party.
