Ben Gvir to Hold Election Security Briefing Without Police Chief
Police preparations for the Israeli elections will proceed under National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir without the attendance of Inspector General Danny Levi, sparking debate over oversight.

The discussion on police preparations for the upcoming elections will take place on Thursday at the Ministry of National Security, as scheduled, according to ministry officials. The head of the operations directorate and the head of the operations division are expected to present a brief update on election security plans to National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
Police Inspector General Danny Levi is not expected to attend the meeting. Sources stated that he requested not to attend a week ago, while Minister Ben Gvir will participate in the gathering as planned.
The clarification follows media reports regarding the summoning of senior police officers to the minister's office days before the vote, which drew criticism from law enforcement circles over potential political exploitation of the police leadership.
Officials at the Ministry of National Security rejected the criticism, explaining that the gathering is a routine situation assessment meeting and presentation of plans, a standard procedure ahead of major events. Last week, Inspector General Levi held an extensive preparation discussion emphasizing that the police remain apolitical.
