Israel Suspends Northern School Trips After Deadly Border Explosion
Education Minister Yoav Kisch suspended northern border school trips for 48 hours after an unexploded ordnance blast killed a 14-year-old student and injured 23 others.
Education Minister Yoav Kisch announced a 48-hour suspension of school trips along Israel's northern border following a tragic explosion that killed a 14-year-old student and injured 23 others.
Speaking at Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa, Kisch stated that an initial review indicated the trip had been fully approved by the Education Ministry's situation room, following guidelines set by the IDF and the Home Front Command. However, he emphasized that all security protocols and field management will undergo a thorough re-examination.
Eitan Masauri, a 14-year-old wounded in the blast, recounted the harrowing moments to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from his hospital bed, noting how students attempted to assist one another amidst the chaos. Kisch noted that the teenagers acted admirably alongside Magen David Adom paramedics to expedite evacuations.
