A mid-air helicopter collision near Mount Everest in Nepal's Solukhumbu district has killed an Indian national and injured another.
A collision between two helicopters near Mount Everest in Nepal's high-altitude Solukhumbu district has left one Indian national dead and another person injured. The incident occurred during landing at a remote helipad located approximately 250 kilometers from the capital, Kathmandu.
Local police confirmed that the victim was 47-year-old Vasanth Kumar Balaramaramadu, a resident of the Indian city of Chennai. According to regional police chief Nabin Rajah Budhathoki, speaking to AFP, the injured individual was swiftly evacuated to a hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The two aircraft involved in the crash were operated by Fishtail Air and Dynasty Air. Dramatic footage capturing the exact moment the rotor blades struck each other mid-air, sending both machines plunging into the snow-covered terrain, quickly circulated across social media platforms.
Aviation in the Himalayan region remains notoriously hazardous due to extreme topographical challenges, volatile weather conditions, and thin air at high altitudes. Small helicopters are extensively utilized across Nepal for transporting tourists, climbers, and supplies, as well as conducting urgent medical evacuations.
