Moriya Dahan, a 35-year-old Israeli citizen residing in the West Hills suburb of Los Angeles, was arrested on suspicion of illegally voting in the November 2024 U.S. presidential election despite not holding American citizenship, the U.S. Department of Justice announced. Dahan is one of six foreign nationals facing new federal criminal charges as part of a sweeping enforcement operation against unlawful voting, carrying a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

According to court documents, on November 5, 2024, Dahan registered to vote and cast a ballot in person after falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen. A year later, on November 6, 2025, when applying for American citizenship, she stated on her application that she had never claimed to be a U.S. citizen and had never registered to vote in any election. Federal prosecutors argue these statements were false.

This marks the second case within a week involving an Israeli national facing criminal proceedings over illegal voting in U.S. elections. About a week and a half ago, the Department of Justice announced charges against Yehuda Peer, a 30-year-old Israeli living in Marion Station, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Peer, who also holds a green card, allegedly voted in the November 2024 presidential election while knowing he was not a U.S. citizen.

Dahan's case is part of a broad federal initiative known as "Operation Protect the Vote," launched by the administration of President Donald Trump in coordination with federal prosecutors in California and Homeland Security Investigations. The operation aims to crack down on voter fraud and non-citizen voting ahead of upcoming midterm elections.
