Negev Arab Communities Record 80% Turnout in Historic Election Surge
Arab communities in the Negev achieved a record 80% voter turnout, sending a clear political message against Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and demanding real influence.

A record-breaking voter turnout of nearly 80% among Arab communities in the Negev, including 82% in Rahat and 81.2% in Kuseife, has been hailed as a historic political mobilization by local residents. Celebrations erupted outside party headquarters, with voters viewing the strong showing as a direct message against National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and his policies.
Message to the Government
Local residents point to contentious issues such as home demolitions, rising crime rates, and a lack of infrastructure development in unrecognized villages as primary drivers for the unprecedented voter engagement. Jalal Abu Baniya, a resident of Wadi al-Na'am, emphasized that the mobilization reflects growing political awareness among the Arab minority, who make up roughly 20% of the country's population.
Translating Votes into Influence
While communities celebrate the high turnout as a major achievement, leaders and citizens stress that the ultimate test lies in translating these ballots into genuine political representation and policy changes. Residents expect elected officials to address long-standing grievances regarding land recognition, civil rights, and integration into decision-making bodies.
