In anticipation of the third anniversary of October 7, the National Library announced a sweeping memorial initiative focused on collecting and preserving books and booklets dedicated to the memory of the fallen and victims. The profound loss experienced by Israeli society since October 7 has been reflected in numerous memorial volumes written by families, friends, communities, and organizations, alongside works left behind by the victims and published posthumously.
Starting October 7, the National Library will host a three-month exhibition titled "7.10 | Bound in Memory," showcasing these memorial publications. Simultaneously, the institution has issued a public call for assistance in locating and depositing additional memorial books and booklets to ensure they are preserved for future generations.
Preserving Stories Behind the Names
This initiative is part of the National Library's broader documentation effort following the events of October 7 and the subsequent war. Operating under the October 7 Archive, the library works to collect, preserve, and catalog testimonies, collections, and materials documenting the era.
"We invite families to deposit physical or digital copies to ensure these publications, forming a significant part of our national memory, remain accessible for generations to come."
In addition to the physical exhibition, a dedicated mini-site will launch on the library's website, allowing the public to digitally explore the personal stories and memories behind the names. Families possessing memorial books not yet in the library's collection are encouraged to check the online catalog and contribute copies.
