Public transport passengers often face daily frustrations. To mitigate unexpected delays, the navigation application Moovit has introduced two new premium features designed to streamline commuting, though they require a paid subscription.

Saved Trip and Real-Time Alerts

The first new tool is Saved Trip, aimed at reducing the need to repeatedly check the app for schedule changes. Once a user saves a specific route, such as a morning commute, the system begins monitoring it approximately 30 minutes before departure, conducting checks every five minutes. It aggregates real-time traffic data, line delays, and schedule modifications to send tailored notifications.

Users receive alerts for three specific scenarios: a recommendation to leave when conditions are optimal, a suggestion to depart earlier due to congestion, or a notification regarding service unavailability. Initially available on iOS, the feature will soon roll out to Android.

Instant Re-Route Functionality

The second feature, Re-Route, addresses disruptions during transit. If a user misses a connection or experiences severe delays, they no longer need to exit the navigation screen to search anew. Instead, clicking a button within the active route provides up to two alternative paths updated every minute, displaying precise arrival times for incoming lines or subsequent transfers.

To access these advanced capabilities, users must subscribe to Moovit+, priced at 12 ILS per month or 72 ILS annually, which also removes advertisements.

Corporate Context and Ownership

These updates arrive during a turbulent period for the company. Reports indicate that Mobileye—through which Intel acquired Moovit in 2022 for 900 million USD—is reportedly seeking to sell the application, potentially below the initial acquisition price. Concurrently, the company laid off approximately a third of its workforce several months ago.
