Ashdod Culinary Scene Expands with New Japanese-Peruvian Mizo Restaurant
The culinary scene in Ashdod expands with Mizo, a new Japanese-Peruvian Nikkei restaurant by the Ototo group, offering a unique fusion menu and stunning interior design.

The culinary scene in Ashdod is flourishing, with new spots joining established favorites like Idit and Cezanca. Recently, the Ototo group chose Ashdod as its next destination, opening Mizo, a stunning Japanese restaurant featuring Nikkei cuisine and striking design.
What is Nikkei Cuisine?
Nikkei is a Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine that combines precise Japanese cooking techniques, such as raw fish cutting, with the bold, acidic, and spicy flavors of Peru. This culinary tradition originated among Japanese immigrants who arrived in Peru in the early 20th century. Globally, restaurants like Maido in Lima have popularized the style, which first arrived in Israel in 2015.
The Menu and Signature Dishes
The Mizo menu was crafted by chef Goma Galili, who trained at Noma and Joël Robuchon, alongside Ototo group chef Gal Vonuno and Chef Guy Liv. The menu is divided into raw fish and beef dishes, Japanese-Peruvian grills, buns, woks, and sushi.
"We wanted to bring a unique culinary experience to Ashdod, combining the precision of Japanese techniques with the vibrant flavors of Peru," noted the culinary team.
Standout dishes include shredded duck bun with pickled cucumber and jalapeño (68 shekels), bluefin tuna tiradito with avocado cream and leche de tigre (82 shekels), and flat iron robata yakiniku grilled over Japanese coals with pear yakiniku and bone marrow sauce (98 shekels).
Located at 13 Max Nordau Street, Ashdod, Mizo is open Monday through Thursday starting at 18:00 and is kosher-certified.
