Airlines on the rise
The sharp drop in oil prices is providing a tailwind for airline stocks, which are among the main beneficiaries of lower fuel costs. The U.S. Global Jets ETF, which concentrates stocks of airline companies, is surging by about 3.9%, after losing 2.6% the day before and closing at a six-week low, when the price of a barrel of Brent crude oil crossed the $100 mark. Among the notable stocks, there were increases of more than 8% in SkyWest, an increase of about 6% in American Airlines, and an increase of about 4% in Delta Air Lines.
Europe and Asia
The leading indices in Europe closed with price increases: the pan-European benchmark index Stoxx 600 rose by 0.8%, the CAC index in France rose by 0.9%, the German DAX jumped by 1.3%, while the FTSE in the UK added 0.9% to its value.
