Michal Amdursky says goodbye in tears: "I couldn't save him"

Almost a decade has passed since Amir Fryszer Guttman drowned to death at Neve Yam beach near Atlit when he was only 41 years old. His close friend, singer Michal Amdursky, spoke on Wednesday on Yifat Haleli Avraham's podcast and spoke with rare openness about one of the most difficult events in her life: the death of the late Fryszer Guttman.

As recalled, Amdursky was present with him in the sea at the time of the tragic drowning, and since then, feelings of guilt have not given her rest. "It hasn't left me for a long time, it's not that it comes back suddenly, it's there all the time," she said. "It's a lot of guilt, that we didn't do, that we couldn't save him. What would have happened if I had done this, what would have happened if we had done otherwise," she shared the feelings that have accompanied her since that day.

Fryszer passed away after a particularly heroic moment, and that is also the mark he left behind. As part of a day at the beach with family and friends, his 5-year-old niece was swept into the water. Fryszer Guttman did not hesitate for a moment and jumped into the water to save her. Although the girl was saved, the life of the successful musician was taken from him in an instant.

Amdursky did not try to beautify the picture and described honestly what many who have experienced a similar loss know and carry on their backs for years. The recurring thoughts, the "what if," and the knowledge that they do not really heal, but also do not let go.
