Puppy killings and mutilation: two cases of animal abuse shake Poland
Three puppies were brought to a veterinary clinic with their ears cruelly severed. In a separate case, a 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of killing three puppies. The surviving animals have been placed under the care of animal welfare organizations.

Polish authorities are investigating two serious cases of animal abuse. In one instance, a 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of killing three puppies near the city of Inowrocław in the north of the country. In another case, three puppies were brought to a veterinary clinic in the city of Mława after their ears had been severed, reported the Polish news site FAKT24.pl.
Police were dispatched following a report of animal abuse near Inowrocław. Officers found three dead puppies at the scene, while three other puppies and two adult dogs were transferred to the care of the Polish Society for the Protection of Animals. The suspect was arrested on July 29, brought before the prosecution the following day, and charged with the killing of three mixed-breed puppies. The court ordered his release under police supervision. If convicted, he faces up to three years in prison.
Simultaneously, another investigation was opened following a severe incident in the city of Ciechanów, in the Masovian Voivodeship. According to TVP Info, Poland's public broadcasting network, a woman discovered three abandoned puppies and brought them to the Centaur veterinary center in Mława.
At the clinic, veterinarians discovered that one puppy had completely lost both ears, while the other two had ears attached only by a thin strip of skin.
"They were hanging by just a piece of skin," the clinic staff stated.
Veterinarian Karol Chmielewski noted that, in his assessment, the injuries were inflicted intentionally. He expressed concern regarding the rise in violence against animals but noted that, despite the severity of the injuries, the puppies' condition has improved and their medical prognosis is positive.
An animal welfare association is expected to file an official complaint with the police. A local spokesperson stated that the investigation is ongoing and further details will be released as they become available. In both cases, investigators are focused on gathering evidence to bring those responsible to justice.
