French Radical Left Leader Jean-Luc Melenchon Pledges Direct Action Against Israel
French radical left leader Jean-Luc Melenchon has pledged to take direct action against Israel and escort civilian flotillas to Gaza if elected president.

Jean-Luc Melenchon, leader of France's radical left, has pledged to take direct action against Israel and what he termed its actions in Gaza and the West Bank if elected president.
Speaking at a special party convention to present his platform ahead of the upcoming presidential election, the leader of the La France Insoumise movement outlined his foreign policy priorities. "We will take direct action to assist the Palestinians, both against the war in Gaza and against the gradual annexation of the West Bank," Melenchon told thousands of supporters.
Elaborating on his proposals, Melenchon stated that French naval vessels could be deployed to escort civilian flotillas attempting to reach the Gaza Strip. He also rejected any territorial changes in the region, criticizing developments in the West Bank, southern Lebanon, and the Golan Heights.
The one-hour speech began with a moment of silence for a 26-year-old victim of a racist attack in Trappes. Melenchon subsequently called for a cultural liberation of France against what he described as fascist tendencies, warning that both racism and liberal economic policies threaten national unity.
The veteran candidate, running for the presidency for the fourth time, also declared a social emergency and addressed ongoing protests by high school students over the cost of living and public services. His platform further includes lowering the voting age to 16 and establishing a state-directed ecological economy.
