British police charged two Iranian nationals with plotting a terrorist attack against the Jewish community in northern England on the eve of Yom Kippur. The suspects, identified as Rahman Salhi, 35, and Salam Ahmadian, 36, were arrested exactly a year after a deadly attack at the Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester.

Counter-terrorism detectives stated that the two men were allegedly in contact with a third-party handler abroad, potentially located in Iran. Vicki Evans, senior national coordinator for counter-terrorism policing, described the charges as extremely serious.

Frank Ferguson, head of the Crown Prosecution Service Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, confirmed that sufficient evidence was found to bring the case forward. The investigation was conducted at a rapid pace throughout Greater Manchester during September.
