Despite Trump's statements: Iran executes citizens who protested
Iran has executed three individuals involved in protests that began in December 2025. The executions occurred despite US President Donald Trump's January claim that Iran had halted such actions.
Iran executed today, Thursday, Qasem Hosseini, a foreign worker who authorities claimed "participated in events that led to the killing of an Iranian security forces member" during the protests that began in December 2025. This occurred despite US President Donald Trump stating in January that Iran had "cancelled the executions."
Furthermore, the Iranian legal news agency "Mizan" reported that on Tuesday, Amirhossein Safari and Abolfazl Safahi were executed. Iran claims the two young men clashed with security forces during a demonstration. Fears of further executions persist against the backdrop of deteriorating negotiation efforts with the USA.
This morning, Donald Trump announced the imposition of economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation against Iran and its proxies, labeling the move an "economic D-Day." On his social network, Truth Social, he wrote:
"Since Iran has failed to reach a deal, I am announcing the largest economic operation ever conducted against any country. This will be economic warfare and international isolation on an unprecedented scale."
Trump further warned:
"Any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to provide any kind of lifeline to Iran will itself face severe economic consequences. Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, shell companies - all of these must stop now. You know who you are."
"This is an economic D-Day, and we need all our allies to stand with us to isolate and defeat the Iranian threat," said President Donald Trump, adding: "These madmen are on the ropes, and these historic steps will hurt them and their ability to project terror around the world. Iran will never have a nuclear weapon."
