Three M-16 assault rifles were stolen from soldiers at the Shayetet 13 naval commando base in Atlit during a security incident. The theft occurred early Tuesday morning at approximately 03:30.
An immediate investigation indicated suspected internal involvement. A soldier stationed at the facility was arrested for questioning regarding the disappearance of the weapons.
The Military Police Criminal Investigation Division and the Israel Police are jointly conducting the investigation due to the severe security implications of weapons leakage from military bases.
The IDF stated that it views weapon thefts with extreme gravity and cooperates with law enforcement to locate the stolen arms and prevent future incidents.
