MK Son Har-Melech Reacts to IDF Elimination of Husband's Killer in Gaza

Twenty-three years after the terror attack in which her husband Shuli was murdered, MK Limor Son Har-Melech received the news of the elimination of a member of the terrorist cell. Farhat Hamed, 43, a senior commander in the military wing of Hamas and a member of the Silwad cell, was killed in an IDF airstrike in the western part of Gaza City. Son Har-Melech wrote that the long arm of the Jewish people will eventually reach every terrorist.

The terror attack took place on August 29, 2003, when the couple was driving on the Alon Road near the village of Al-Mughayyir. Five terrorists opened fire at their vehicle, instantly killing Shuli. MK Son Har-Melech, who was seven months pregnant at the time, was severely wounded and gave birth to their daughter, Sarah Yehav, a few hours later. The five members of the cell were sentenced to life imprisonment in 2004, but Hamed was later released in the 2011 Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange and deported to the Gaza Strip, where he continued his terrorist activities.

IDF Strikes and Security Operations

Following the targeted killing, the al-Qassam Brigades confirmed Hamed's death, noting he served in the West Bank military council. MK Son Har-Melech stated that the elimination highlights the existential need for the death penalty for terrorists. Meanwhile, the IDF and Shin Bet announced the destruction of three Hamas weapon depots in the Gaza Strip containing explosives, anti-tank missiles, and military equipment.

"Let every terrorist who murdered Jews know: even if released, even if he flees, and even if many years pass, the long arm of the Jewish people will reach him," wrote MK Limor Son Har-Melech.
