Ukraine warns the Hasidim: "It is not possible to guarantee your safety in Uman"
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry warned that the war and ongoing shelling make it impossible to guarantee the safety of Hasidim arriving in Uman for Rosh Hashanah. The authorities also warned of a shortage of shelters and medical services, alongside movement restrictions and a curfew in the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has called on Hasidim planning to arrive in Uman for the Rosh Hashanah celebrations to take into account the security risks and restrictions currently in force due to the war with Russia. This was stated in a report published on Wednesday in Ukrainian News. The ministry emphasized that ongoing missile attacks on civilian infrastructure pose a real threat to human life, and therefore "it is not possible to guarantee full security for foreign citizens staying in the territory of Ukraine."
The ministry also reminded that martial law remains in effect in the country, which includes restrictions on freedom of movement, a night curfew, increased patrols, and a ban on holding public events and gatherings.
In addition, authorities warned of heavy congestion at border crossings and land transport routes, as well as potential delays due to damage to transport infrastructure. It was further noted that there are not enough shelters in Uman to accommodate the number of pilgrims, and that the local medical system is not prepared to provide a response to a large number of visitors.
According to the report, last year residents of Uman complained that some pilgrims ignored air raid sirens, despite repeated warnings from the authorities.
