Iran is examining the possibility of expanding its range of attacks to Europe if US President Donald Trump escalates the war and orders a renewed attack against the Islamic Republic, the Financial Times reported this morning, Wednesday.
According to the report, Iranian forces have identified potential targets in the southeast of the continent, primarily in Bulgaria, after the country authorized the use of an airbase for American refueling aircraft last month. Cyprus is also in the crosshairs following a drone attack on the British airbase in Akrotiri in March. Western officials believe the drone was Iranian, though it was launched by a regional proxy organization rather than directly from Tehran.
At the same time, Tehran is evaluating the possibility of damaging underwater fiber-optic cables in the Strait of Hormuz in the event of further escalation. This comes amid a growing consensus among senior regime officials that renewed hostilities against the US are only a matter of time.
