The IDF has announced a comprehensive series of command appointments headed by Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, pending approval by Defense Minister Israel Katz. The appointments include the creation of a new robotics brigade and the reactivation of the 500th Armored Brigade.

New Formations and Tech Integration

For the first time, a head of the Robotics Brigade will be appointed under the Depth Corps, reflecting the growing impact of artificial intelligence and drone threats on future combat. Additionally, following lessons learned from Operation Iron Swords, the military is re-establishing the 500th Armored Brigade, which was disbanded in 2003, equipping it with advanced Merkava Mark 4 tanks.

A dedicated Space Brigade is also being established under the multi-year "Hoshen" plan to spearhead space warfare capabilities, sensor operations, and specialized military training. This follows recent multi-front engagements involving Iran, regional proxies, and the Houthis in Yemen, highlighting the strategic importance of space dominance.

Command and Staff Assignments

Numerous brigade and regional command posts have been finalized. Col. T. will command the Hiram Brigade (769) in the Northern Command, while Col. Y. takes over the Ephraim Regional Brigade in the Central Command. Other key appointments include Col. N. leading the Benjamin Regional Brigade and Col. D. commanding the Menashe Regional Brigade.

Defense leadership also filled several international military attaché positions. Col. Liron Apelman will serve in Poland, Col. Tomer Malkiman in Germany, Col. Ido Ben Anat in Finland, Col. Liran Luria Bauer in France, Col. Roy Cohen in the United Kingdom, Col. Adi Kemper in Belgium, and Col. Ariel Gonen as ground attaché in Washington.
