Lieberman on Yair Golan: "I would be happy to praise him, just let him be quiet"
The Yisrael Beiteinu chairman said he would not agree to a government in which the Democrats would receive the defense, internal security, or justice portfolios. And why is he attacking him? "Let him be quiet - that is his greatest contribution to our victory."
Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Lieberman spoke out last night (Monday) against Democrats chairman Yair Golan, stating he would not agree to a government in which the Democrats would receive the defense, internal security, or justice portfolios.
"It is simply unacceptable," the Yisrael Beiteinu chairman determined at the "Talking Revival" conference in Ramat HaSharon. "I said very clearly: no and no."
When asked why he is attacking Golan and his statements, Lieberman replied:
"I would be happy to praise him, just let him be quiet. That is his greatest contribution to our victory."
He added that there are sufficient areas of agreement, such as a law limiting the prime minister to two terms, the draft law, and a constitution. However, he argued that "raising the issue of a Palestinian state or the evacuation of settlements every two days is complete madness. It is purely work for the benefit of Benjamin Netanyahu."
Regarding the election results and the possibility of forming a government with the Likud, Lieberman said: "We are heading toward a Hungarian scenario. The latest polls are close, the change bloc has 60 or 61 mandates, and there will be a landslide victory. We will win by a significant margin. We will be able to pick up a few mandates from the Likud if we are short, but without Netanyahu. As far as I am concerned, Netanyahu must not even be a minister for regional cooperation in my government."
In an interview with the Knesset Channel today, Lieberman continued his criticism: "My problem with Yair Golan is that he acts as if he works for the Likud's public relations headquarters. Instead of talking about things that are common to all of us—dozens of points like a state commission of inquiry, the draft, and term limits—he talks about evacuating all the settlements every two days, including Nokdim, where I live. He is creating a Palestinian state, which is literally playing into Netanyahu's hands."
Last month, Lieberman mocked Golan for his remarks regarding the evacuation of outposts: "I already said that Yair Golan has no coordination between his head and his mouth. I suggest he sign up for a storytelling festival. The next government will focus on decisive action against enemies—against the Iranians, the Houthis, Hamas, and Hezbollah. We will focus on the common ground, on things that are in consensus, not on disputes."
