Liat Blue: "Sweetie, you are anorexic, you have an eating disorder"
After causing a stir online by responding to a photo of Eden Pines and speaking out against the culture of "worshipping thinness," Liat Blue shared about the eating disorder she dealt with in the past, and admitted: "As a 42-year-old woman who has been through a thing or two in her life, it unsettles me."
Liat Blue caused a stir earlier this month when she addressed a photo of Eden Pines with an exposed belly and said it was time to stop worshipping thinness. As someone who dealt with eating disorders in the past and was even hospitalized, Blue spoke out against the phenomenon publicly, received quite a bit of backlash, and even apologized. Tomorrow on "Ktzat Shabbat Shalom" (10:05 on Keshet 12) she explains what was behind the choice to respond, and shared the difficult struggle she went through herself.
"I think Eden is one of the most stunning, beautiful, and talented women in the country. I didn't intend to hurt anyone and I didn't think it would reach these proportions," said Blue, and added how she felt when she saw the photo in question:
"As someone who has been through eating disorders, and as a 42-year-old woman who has been through a thing or two in her life, it unsettles me. So many women and men suffer from this, and people reached out to me to get help, it was crazy. With all the hate I received, if I managed to help one person, I have done my part."
Blue also told about her personal struggle: "Before the hospitalization, I was treated by a psychologist, and no one came and said to me 'wake up'. Until I said to my sister-in-law 'I don't know what I have, I can't eat and I lost a lot of weight', and she said to me: 'Sweetie, you are anorexic, you have an eating disorder'. There is nothing you cannot recover from, once you are aware of it and go to get treatment. Family and friends must be recruited for this together with you."
