Europe Prepares for Potential Armed Attack by Russia
Poland and the Baltic states are reinforcing security measures amid fears of Russian provocations. Intelligence reports suggest a risk of 'false flag' operations designed to destabilize NATO, while Germany reports a series of suspicious security incidents.
Countries in Eastern Europe are preparing for the possibility of an attack by Russia. Intelligence assessments suggest that Moscow may use Ukrainian-made drones to conduct 'false flag' operations, aimed at testing NATO's reaction and inciting confrontation.
Poland and the Baltic states—Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia—have recently expanded security at critical facilities, including dams, power plants, and natural gas infrastructure. Lithuania has already deployed army units to assist police in securing its liquefied natural gas import terminal and central power lines. "We are signaling clearly that if necessary, we will defend ourselves," said Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas.
Latvia has also increased security around all vital infrastructure, including the dam on the Daugava River and underground gas storage facilities. Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs noted that the possibility of a hybrid threat is higher than ever.
The Situation in Germany
Parallel to the concerns in Eastern Europe, Germany is dealing with a series of unusual events. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that the country is a daily target of hybrid warfare. A recent incident involving a suspicious drone crashing at Leipzig Airport and the observation of drones over a military base in Mechernich, where Patriot air defense components are stored, have raised significant alarm in Berlin.
In response to these threats, the German Interior Ministry plans to double the number of federal experts dealing with UAVs and expand the network of bases for specialists in this field.
Intelligence Assessments and Kremlin Response
Moscow categorically rejects these allegations. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed the warnings of secret Russian attacks as "scare stories" intended to justify Western rearmament.
Nevertheless, Western intelligence agencies are revising their assessments. According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. intelligence suggests that Vladimir Putin may be considering an armed action in Eastern Europe to test the resolve of NATO allies and create political chaos within the alliance.
