Security establishment responds to concerns in the Gaza envelope following kite sightings
Residents of the Gaza envelope communities have expressed concern over a recent wave of kite launches. The IDF reassures that the situation on the ground is fundamentally different from October 7th, while maintaining maximum alertness.
Kites with long strings were located yesterday in the Nahal Oz area, joining a series of similar incidents recorded in recent months in the Gaza envelope. In April, two kites were found near Kissufim, followed by sightings in the Sdot Negev area and the Be'eri forest.
Security officials addressed the phenomenon in a conversation with "HaYom":
"The IDF does not take lightly the four kites that were launched over the weekend and one more last week."
However, officials emphasized that it is impossible to compare current conditions to those that preceded October 7th. According to these sources, the IDF now controls 63-64% of the Strip's territory, maintains 16 battalions under two divisions inside the "yellow line," and has recently established approximately 40 outposts within the Strip. Furthermore, Israel conducts daily strikes in the Gaza Strip, often multiple times a day.
The IDF reports that the kites were likely launched by teenagers sent by Hamas. The military notes that the matter is being monitored and does not currently constitute a significant threat. Officials added that surveillance will continue, and the IDF is prepared to act differently should the number of kites increase or if they are found to carry explosives.
