The maximum salary, the Colorado plan, and the optimism of the parties: behind the Abu Farchi deal
Maccabi Tel Aviv estimates that the deal will go through: Sayed Abu Farchi will be able to earn up to 880 thousand dollars per season in the first two years, his intended team is convinced that he will contribute greatly to them - and that they will sell him for a much higher amount than the purchase price.
Colorado Rapids aims to close the deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv for Sayed Abu Farchi within the next 24 hours. The team is eager to sign the player and, as previously reported, has offered Maccabi Tel Aviv six million dollars. Sources familiar with the details estimate that the deal will go through, as Colorado is pushing hard to finalize it.
The club is confident that Abu Farchi will contribute professionally for at least the next two years (if he arrives, he will join in the middle of the season), and they are equally convinced that they will sell him later to a European club for a much higher amount. Maccabi Tel Aviv is also convinced that Colorado will not be Abu Farchi's last stop, and they are therefore negotiating to retain a significant percentage of any future sale.
Abu Farchi will earn a maximum of 80 thousand dollars gross per month in the first season. For the next season, his salary will increase by another 80 thousand dollars gross per season, for a total of 880 thousand dollars gross per season, with the same amount in the season after that.
According to MLS rules, a player under the age of 22 can earn a maximum of 800 thousand dollars gross per season. In the following season, an additional 80 thousand dollars gross per season, and in the season after that another 80 thousand dollars gross per season, for a maximum total of 960 thousand dollars gross per season.
Maccabi Tel Aviv estimates that there is a high probability that the deal will go through.
