Management staff to join field shifts: Israel Airports Authority's exceptional measure following congestion
The Israel Airports Authority has decided to return Ben Gurion Airport to routine operations through the temporary reinforcement of headquarters and management staff in the field. Additionally, it was noted that recruitment of employees continues ahead of the Tishrei holidays. The Ministry of Transport announced the establishment of an external review committee to examine the events that led to the crisis, in addition to an internal committee led by the Authority's internal auditor.
Following the workers' union strike on Thursday and the resulting congestion, the Israel Airports Authority held a meeting this morning where a series of measures were agreed upon. Among them, it was decided that alongside the return to routine of baggage, security, and ground services, headquarters and management staff will temporarily join shifts in the field, with an emphasis on the baggage system and queue management. This is done "out of responsibility to the traveling public and a commitment to restoring regular operations at Ben Gurion Airport."
Additionally, the Israel Airports Authority council announced the establishment of a review committee to examine the chain of events that led to the crisis, which will be headed by the Authority's internal auditor. Minister of Transport Miri Regev ordered the additional establishment of an external review committee. Furthermore, the Authority continues to recruit new employees to prepare for the Tishrei holiday period. It should be noted that the press releases emphasize the phrase "as planned" — apparently to highlight that there is no connection between the workers' strike and the action, and that the workers' union did not succeed in bending the Authority.
"We ask the traveling public to check flight times with the airlines and arrive at the airport according to the instructions," the statement read. "The Israel Airports Authority will continue to operate continuously and responsibly to ensure regular, safe, and efficient service for the traveling public."
