Shas leader lashes out at Attorney General: "Crazy, the Almighty will finish her off"
Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef launched a harsh attack against Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara. The criticism follows the Attorney General's demand to postpone state memorial events for Rabbi Ovadia Yosef due to election concerns.
Shas is not rising in the polls, and the party's leadership is shifting the focus to the Attorney General, launching an unbridled attack: Shas spiritual leader, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, lashed out last night (Saturday) at Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara during his weekly lesson.
"Crazy. Who is she anyway? The Almighty will finish her off. He will give her the blow. This will not pass in silence," he said.
After a relatively state-oriented campaign focusing on families with soldiers alongside yeshiva students, led by Shas chairman Aryeh Deri, the party's spiritual leader Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef — who only last week reached understandings with Deri — launched this attack against Baharav-Miara. This occurred after the Attorney General demanded the postponement of state memorial events for his father, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, whose memorial day falls this year on October 14, due to concerns regarding the use of state resources for election propaganda.
Shas members were outraged, and Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef stated:
"At the funeral of our master, there were almost a million people. The entire people of Israel. The anniversary of the Rabbi is coming, to hold a memorial as it should be, as is worthy of his honor, and suddenly they issue a legal opinion — this wicked one, the Attorney General. What is her name? Miara, this crazy woman — issues an opinion that it is forbidden to hold a rally in honor of our master."
"Rabin was a political man, he was murdered close to the elections, and that rally is not forbidden. That belongs to the left," compared Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef. "That's fine, let them hold a rally, why not? But regarding our master, the greatest of the generations, who was a Torah man and not a political one — she issues an opinion that it is forbidden to hold rallies before elections. Let them not listen to her, who is she anyway? The Almighty will finish her off, He will give her her blow. Messing with our master? This will not pass in silence."
