The Spanish Boomerang: The Bill for Obsession Against Israel Paid in Cash

Exactly a month ago, during the San Fermin festival in Pamplona, thousands of Spaniards dressed in white and red ran with the bulls and unfurled a huge banner above their heads that read: "DESTROY ISRAEL". This is not "criticism of policy," but an explicit call for the destruction of Israel. In addition, the Israeli flag was displayed crossed out with a diagonal line, the crowd shouted, and cameras documented the event.

In fact, Spain, the country that was once home to Jews for centuries until their expulsion during the Inquisition, returned for a brief moment to its old instincts: antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiment. Let us recall that Spain also boycotted Eurovision due to Israel's participation and acted against it in a series of measures. Among other things, its Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez spoke out against Israel, declaring that "Palestine is bleeding to death before our eyes" and called for increased international pressure to stop the fighting in Gaza.

In addition, Sanchez submitted two proposals to the UN General Assembly aimed at condemning Israel, appealed to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to examine whether Israel is meeting its obligations to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, and appealed to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to examine Israel's legal responsibility for what is happening in the Strip. Alongside this, he supported the two-state solution and emphasized that the time has come to implement irreversible steps to establish an independent Palestinian state, following his government's decision to officially recognize it.

Today, at the end of July 2026, fate decided to return the favor. Tens of thousands of young people from Morocco — most of them young, sturdy, and determined men — breached the border into Ceuta: they swam, climbed, broke through fences, and flooded the streets. At least nine deaths were counted, reception centers are exploding, and the Spanish army was sent to restore order within what officers defined as "total chaos" and a complete collapse of the border. Irony? No. It is simply divine punishment.

Spain, which in the last two years, as mentioned, was one of the most vocal against Israel and recognized a Palestinian state with embarrassing ease, turned its streets into a stage for PLO flags and "From the river to the sea" slogans. The antisemitic Spain was so pleasing to the Arabs that Prime Minister Sanchez was the most hostile European leader, and the Arab world was so fascinated by him that he participated as a special guest of honor at the 34th Arab League summit held in Baghdad in May 2025, where he delivered an anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian speech.

Sanchez spoke constantly against the "Israeli occupation," but Spain, his country, has been occupying two Moroccan cities for decades: Ceuta and Melilla. These cities, along with several small islands in the area, are Spanish enclaves under full Spanish sovereignty. Morocco views them as occupied territories and demands their return, which causes ongoing diplomatic tension between the countries. Spain has controlled Ceuta since the 17th century and Melilla since the end of the 15th century, and defines them as "autonomous cities" and an integral part of its territory and the European Union, while Morocco claims that the cities are a remnant of colonialism and demands sovereignty over them.

Spain completely refuses any negotiations on the subject, but in other words — these two cities belong to Morocco and should be returned, so the breach there is highly justified.

In any case, Spain is now getting what it actually asked for: a new demography. Not Jews, heaven forbid, they are no longer there in significant numbers. Instead, a wave of young people from North Africa has arrived, exactly from the direction that historically knew how to provide Spain with both conquests and problems. The Spaniards wanted to "free Palestine" and got the liberation of their own border. They shouted about "genocide," now they are dealing with the murder of a border.

They raised a "Destroy Israel" banner and fate, with almost divine cynicism, raised another banner for them: "Accept Morocco." Do not be surprised if in a few years the same young people who breached Ceuta will be the ones standing in the streets of Madrid and Barcelona shouting new slogans against Spain and perhaps asking for an Islamic state governed by Sharia.

Because that is how it works: he who invites the wind gets the storm, and he who invites the destruction of a Jewish state suddenly discovers that the destruction can also begin in his own home. Spain wanted to be "moral" and "just" and destroy Israel, and now it is receiving the bill in tens of thousands of young men from Morocco. Welcome to reality, Spain.
