October 7 was a vaccine against the renewal of the Oslo vision - but its validity is beginning to fade

A few weeks ago, the Belgian Embassy in Israel, in cooperation with the European Union delegation, organized a symposium that looked and sounded as if it were taken directly from the mid-90s. The event was held under a long and particularly tedious title and passed without much publicity, but its essence can be summarized in one sentence: how to push Israel to walk again on the Oslo path towards the establishment of a Palestinian state.

One of the most common conventions that have taken root in our country is that "Oslo is dead." This is true, at least in one sense: the process that purports to build the foundation for peace on the formula that Jews should give their country to their enemies and hope for the best never had a life expectancy. In this sense, the idea of Oslo was born dead, and its supporters doomed to death many thousands of innocent Israelis who were murdered as a result of the attempt to implement it and lead us all on the Oslo path, even though all the signs from the beginning indicated that it was a path to hell.

Quite a few of the Oslo supporters among the Israelis have since sobered up, but certainly not all of them. And even worse, all those who encouraged the process from the outside, the Europeans and Americans from the political and academic left who, unlike the Israelis, did not feel on their own skin the results of the monstrous process they initiated, are still sure that if they only return the Israelis to worship the "vision" of a Palestinian state - everything will work out.

Some of them are genuinely mistaken, because their general worldview holds that the enemy must be appeased. Although this recipe has never worked anywhere else, what do they care about conducting another experiment at our expense? Others, less naive, understand that the establishment of a Palestinian state in the heart of the Land of Israel can lead to only one result - the end of the "Zionist project" and the end of the Jewish state - except that this result is completely acceptable to them. They are even starting to say it out loud, like New York City Council member Zohran Mamdani, who recently admitted that the idea of a Jewish state is unacceptable to him.

"Oslo is not dead"

In this sense, "Oslo is not dead": the hope of the Israeli and global left to market, or force, upon the Israeli public the suicidal idea of establishing a murderous Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria has not gone anywhere. The October 7 massacre naturally served as a vaccine against such insane ideas, however, like any vaccine, it does not work forever. As time passes, the vaccine's effectiveness weakens.

And the proof - not even three years have passed since we all saw what the terror quasi-state that was in Gaza does, and the Democratic Party primary candidates are already speaking out loudly in favor of dividing the country and establishing another terror state, only larger and closer to the center of the country.

In fact, the only thing preventing the revival of the Oslo nightmare is a full-right government. It has acted successfully both on the political level with the goal of making it irrelevant, and on the practical level, in Judea and Samaria, with the goal of creating facts on the ground that will not allow its return.

If a right-wing government is replaced at the ballot box, the Oslo process will be brought to us again and immediately, perhaps in new packaging and under the cover of new illusions. Those who wish us harm in the various capitals can no longer wait.
