Tal Raban is an Israeli CEO, lecturer, and author. Raban served for 14 years as CEO of three of the largest consumer goods companies in the country: Coca-Cola Israel, Kimberly-Clark Israel, and Tara Dairies. In a video he posted on his TikTok account, Raban told about the moment he decided to eliminate the "Diet Coke" brand and introduce a different alternative to consumers, something that significantly increased the profits of the beverage giant.

"Why, as CEO of Coca-Cola, did I kill Diet Coke? I want to tell you one of the most interesting stories in my career, and that is the story of Coke Zero. The diet market in Israel consisted of Diet Coca-Cola and Pepsi Max. Consumers, over the years, liked Diet Coke less. There was a dilemma about what to do with this situation because Pepsi Max was getting stronger. There was one option, and that was the conservative option: to strengthen Diet Coke and do campaigns for it and everything necessary. The second option was, truly a crazy option, to take a third brand that no one knows and it is called 'Coke Zero' and launch it in the Israeli market. I decided that this was the right thing to do. It was a truly risky decision, to introduce a brand that no one knows because it could end in a spectacular failure. On the other hand, trying to strengthen Diet Coke could succeed but not significantly."

Afterwards, Tal Raban shared that after examining all the risks, he understood that it was right to make this brave decision and establish a third brand that would overtake the competitor.

"The amazing thing is that within a year, when no one believed at all that it could happen, Coke Zero captured most of the market share in the State of Israel and turned the Pepsi Max problem into a marginal problem. I learned that sometimes you have to make brave decisions. Not crazy decisions that are just crazy and not to throw away the risks. To evaluate risks, to respect them, but yes to take big decisions. Great results happen only with brave decisions."
