Construction of the Shimon Peres Medical Center: A New Landmark in Israeli Healthcare
Margolin Engineering and Consulting and Foren Sherim have been selected to manage the planning and construction of the Shimon Peres Medical Center in Beersheba. Phase A includes 200,000 square meters of facilities and 600 inpatient beds, with construction expected to begin around 2028.
Margolin Engineering and Consulting and Foren Sherim have been selected to manage the planning, coordination, and supervision of the new Shimon Peres Medical Center in the Negev — a project poised to become the largest public hospital in Israel.
The medical center will be built in the northeast of Beersheba, adjacent to the Hi-Tech Park and Ben-Gurion University, as part of the city’s new innovation district. The project is being promoted by Peres Negev, a joint venture of the Leumit and Meuhedet health funds, in collaboration with the Sheba Medical Center, government bodies, and the Beersheba municipality.
According to the master plan, the complex will span a built-up area of approximately 700,000 square meters and will accommodate about 2,100 inpatient beds. The total investment is estimated at billions of shekels.
Phase A, which is now underway, includes the construction of 200,000 square meters, the addition of 600 inpatient beds, and the development of two main buildings: an inpatient facility featuring an emergency medicine department (MALR'D) and an ambulatory building for clinics and day treatments. Additionally, logistical support buildings and an independent energy center will be constructed.
The plan also includes extensive transportation infrastructure, featuring two new interchanges, a heavy rail station, and a dedicated light rail line connecting the complex to Beersheba’s main arteries. Construction is expected to begin toward 2028, with the first phase spanning approximately 8 years. The project is projected to generate about 3,000 new jobs in the area.
