Elon Musk's Revolution: Integrating Stablecoins into X's Payment System
The social network X is in talks to integrate the USDC stablecoin for international payments and creator rewards, aiming to bypass traditional banking limitations.

X, the social network owned by Elon Musk, is conducting negotiations to examine the integration of stablecoins into its payment system. At the center of the discussions is USDC, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, which could be used to transfer royalties and rewards to content creators and influencers on the platform.
According to a report by Crypto Jungle, the primary goal of this move is to allow X to perform international payments faster and at a lower cost. The system may also facilitate micro-payments—transfers of very small amounts—without dependence on the costs and limitations of traditional banking infrastructure.
This could be particularly significant for content creators in countries where banking infrastructure is less advanced. Instead of relying on international clearing systems and fees that can make small payments unprofitable, funds could be transferred directly and quickly using a stablecoin.
This initiative aligns with X's new rewards program, the Original Content Rewards Program, which is intended to replace the previous model based primarily on advertising revenue sharing. Under the new model, the company seeks to reward users for original content, reports, ideas, and creativity.
If implemented, this move may integrate into Musk's broader vision of turning X into an "everything app." As part of this vision, X is expected to transform from a communication platform into a service that also centralizes payments, shopping, and financial management through X Money.
Using stablecoins is not a foreign concept to Musk's companies. SpaceX has already utilized stablecoins for payments related to the Starlink satellite internet service in emerging markets. The move at X could expand the use of this technology to the creator economy as well.
One of the possible changes is broader accessibility of stablecoins to users who are not familiar with the crypto world. If X integrates a USDC wallet within the platform, users will be able to receive and transfer payments without necessarily needing to understand the technical complexity of the blockchain world.
The choice of USDC is also notable. It is a stablecoin by Circle, pegged to the dollar, and thus it differs from volatile cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Dogecoin. Its use may also strengthen its position in the competition against Tether's USDT.
However, it is important to emphasize that at this stage, these are only negotiations. X has not yet officially announced the launch of a payment system based on USDC, and therefore it is not yet clear if the move will be approved, when it will be launched, or in what format it will operate.
If the plan is implemented, it may signal a significant connection between social networks, digital payments, stablecoins, and the creator economy, while simultaneously bringing X one step closer to Musk's vision of turning it into an app that centralizes many services in one place.
