US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her position at the end of the month. According to Trump, Leavitt decided to end her tenure to spend more time with her young children and family. However, her departure from the White House does not signal a break from the administration: the president announced that she will become one of his leading external advisors and will continue to play a significant political role in the Republican Party, including in efforts ahead of the midterm elections.
In a statement, Trump praised Leavitt at length and clarified that he fully respects her decision:
"Our wonderful White House Press Secretary, and one of my most loyal aides, Karoline Leavitt, will be leaving her position at the end of the month so that she can spend more time with her young, beautiful children and family, a decision that I fully understand and respect!"
Despite the departure, Trump emphasized that Leavitt will remain part of his political circle. "Karoline will now be one of my leading external advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy history and win decisively in the midterm elections," he stated.
Trump placed her among the top tier of White House spokespeople, thanking her for a "job well done" and her phenomenal work in the fight for justice and liberty since 2018, including the historic 2024 reelection campaign.
Leavitt herself addressed her departure, calling her role as Press Secretary an "honor and a once-in-a-lifetime adventure." She thanked the president for the opportunities she received, explaining that the decision stemmed from the difficulty of balancing motherhood with the intensive demands of the role.
"Since I returned to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I felt in my heart that I could not be the best mother that my two young children deserve while dedicating the constant time, energy, and attention required from the White House Press Secretary," she explained, describing it as a "bittersweet decision."
Leavitt clarified that she intends to remain active in the political struggle, attacking the Democratic Party and claiming the United States faces an "existential threat." She concluded by stating, "my fight is entering a new phase, but it is far from over."
